These are quilts I made in late 2014.  Quilted it with butterflies.

The back of the quilt, using the leftovers.

I did a design class last year with Elizabeth Barton. Here is the sample I made and am in the process of making the larger version.

I made 14 market bags to use as gifts. I dyed all the handles to match. Here is one that I gave to my sister-in-law.

Very interesting when I put in one place the work I did in two months. Here is a scarf that I made using Kaffe Fassett - using three fat quarters. I made three more that I did not take pics of.

Another jelly roll race I made for my niece.

This was a lot of fun...
I dyed all this fabric, then designed the quilt. It has been quilted, still need to add bindings.

This one I did in a spiral, tighter at the center.

This was the first one in the series of three similar quilts.  I did this in a spiral as well.

This is the back. Square blocks down the 1/3 point.

This is one I designed using Kaffe Fassett and Robert Kaufman fabric that I dyed for the plain colours. Still needs to be quilted.

The front of this one is made with a jelly roll using a jelly roll race. I cut these into quarters and made it square.  The back I created with fabrics I had left over, I gave this to my son for Christmas. What was the back is now the main feature of the front.  I quilted in a big spiral

This is another jelly roll race that I cut into quarters. The back is pieces with left over fabric.

Sewing Along

A lot has happened in a day. I received a reply from Moda Bake Shop and have submitted my Chef Application and have started more work on my blog...
This was made from fabrics that my sister gave to me quite a few years ago - and I finally came up with a design for them.  The quilt is being quilted - this is the front. I am going to make it again and write up directions for a pattern as I go. I am going to use the wonky squares that I have on the back in each corner of the front.  I also would like to make this into two quilts instead of one.

Back of Many Moons

I have other ideas... have a Jelly Roll of Le Bouquet from French General that I have drawn up a pattern for - using wonky blocks staggered and then a row of plain fabric.... designing this idea from the back of this quilt into something simpler that shows the colours. Seems I am really into reds and beiges these days.

Wish my Hands and Machine could sew as fast as my Head comes up with ideas.

I am at a space and time in my life of realizing what I have always yearned to do.... design and create with fabric  I have been dying my own fabrics for a year and designing my own quilts. Most have turned out like I wanted.  I have learned and taken that knowledge to the next design.

My sketch book is full of ideas. Recently I have jumped out of the walls and gone for it!  I sent three quilts off to be quilted and was blown away by the comments I got back from Linda. She encouraged me to take my quilting further. She said:

  • Start a blog!
  • Write up your designs
  • Contact fabric companies
  • Get an account with Jeffersons
  • Exhibit your quilts
The comment that gave me the motivation -- you have an outstanding sense of design... and she gave me the guidance. I have already in one day accomplished two of the items. Now I am working on the blog. I have had a blog for years - but used it for my teaching and then personal goals. Now I will create a new one to show case my quilts.  Once I get my quilts back I will get the bindings on and look at where they can be exhibited... not sure I am ready for the judging - but that would be next.

I have been working on a quilt this past week, I ended up taking all the borders off some of the blocks tonight as they just did not fit... so put on a trial change of colour, but need to wait for daylight to check to see if they work better.... or will they all be red.. just thinking it may be too much red.

I also ordered fabric from Hamel's yesterday to make another wonky block and wonky circle quilt so I can take pictures as I make the quilt.  Also, I will make up the one I had designed from the jelly rolls.  Once I am back at the lake I will dye fabric and start on the design with greys and turquoise that I started last Fall....
